Jonathan Henderson

Jonathan Henderson (b.1987) trained with Europe’s leading flute professors and has carved out a multifaceted performance career spanning from Australia to the Nordic countries.

After completing his early musical training at the Queensland Conservatorium with Gerhard Mallon and privately with Sally Walker, Jonathan continued his studies in Germany with Felix Renggli at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and in Switzerland with Jacques Zoon at the Haute École de Musique Genève.

Between 2012 and 2019 Jonathan held the position of Principal Flute with the Estonian National Opera Orchestra. After developing a relationship with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland, he travelled regularly to perform as guest principal flute, followed by a contract with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and invitations to perform with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and Nordic Symphony Orchestra.

In Australia, Jonathan has performed as guest principal flute with the Opera Australia Orchestra, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, and as a guest with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Maintaining a special interest in chamber music, Jonathan is the founder and artistic director of Contra Concerts and flautist with the Australian Debussy Trio. From 2013-2016 he directed the New Theatre Ensemble in Estonia and from 2019-2022 performed as a member of the Southern Cross Soloists.
