Across 2021–22, Jonathan is engaged as Guest Principal Flute with the Opera Australia Orchestra, performing in productions of La Bohème, Turandot, The Marriage of Figaro, La Juive, Otello, La Traviata, Il Trovatore and Attila at the Sydney Opera House. He will perform in the same role for the Australian Ballet's Sydney season of Anna Karenina, Instruments of Dance and Romeo and Juliet. In May, he returns as Guest Principal Flute with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland for their Spring Season, including performances at the Naantali Music Festival. Whilst in Finland, Jonathan will give a short solo recital at the Betel Kirkko, Turku. He will a perform in May as a guest with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
2022 highlights include performances as guest principal flute with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, as solo flutist with the Southern Cross Soloists in their QPAC Concert Series, collaborating with pianist in residence Konstantin Shamray, and his debut performance at the 19th Annual Bangalow Music Festival and the inaugural MESH festival in Sydney.
Following their 2021 debut, in April Jonathan will appear with the Australian Debussy Trio with James Wannan (viola) and Emily Granger (harp) at the Melbourne Recital Centre’s Primrose Potter Salon, performing an all-Australian trio recital featuring Mystic Dances; a newly commissioned work composed especially for the ensemble by pre-eminent Australian composer Ross Edwards. The trio have recently secured a forthcoming commission by Australian composer and emeritus professor of music at the University of Sydney, Anne Boyd AM.
